Lake Belton is the best lake in central Texas for smallmouth bass and a very good lake for largemouth as well. It fishes shallow mostly but lots of fish deeper as well. A jig or fluke works great for any of these as well as most other lures. The white bass population and also hybrid bass that they've been stocking in the lake are all over and we get into those sometimes as well. If you are after quality bass, either smallmouth or largemouth, this is a great place to go in the Central Texas area. In tournaments, it sometimes takes over 20 pounds to win and other times, high teeens will get it done here. This lake has a lot the right cover and it sets up nicely to have a great day on the water.
